History of the Mill
This 19th-century windmill is a piece of industrial architecture used to transform cereals into flour, the basis of human nutrition (wheat, corn, rye, and oats). Originating in Persia (7th century AD), it began to be used in Europe in the 12th century.

The Monte Adão Mill was built during the 3rd French invasion, in 1810. It is an original and unique refuge in a rural landscape, under a bright blue sky and an idyllic sunset.

It has been fully restored, in an execution by master Joaquim Domingos who, with wisdom and dedication, contributed to the conservation of the original mechanisms inside.

Reconverted from its original functions, with a breathtaking 360º view, it is special for its uniqueness: It maintains the original mechanisms inside. Outside, it has a garden setting, framed by the mountains, valleys of agricultural crops, and rural landscapes. Its location allows easy and quick access to several beaches, hiking trails, and cultural visits and activities.
